Refurbishing our new sailboat requires a lot of work, so on our Sunday day off, it is but apt to enjoy some much-deserved luxury. This time, we made Cheeca Lodge & Spa our home for the weekend in Islamorada, Florida Keys, Florida.

What is more, my college best friend flew in from Canada and joined us! He has never been to the Florida Keys so I told him that we will work on the boat then go on “mini-trips”! He helped us with the interior painting of the sailboat and was happy to become our photographer. It was definitely a great weekend.

If you are not familiar with this area, check Google because it is crazy popular and expensive to live and travel! Oops! But it is every bit worth it.

The Florida Keys is a tropical paradise. It has that “forever summer” feel. The water is a gorgeous turquoise, the palm trees dance in the gentle breeze, and if you are a serious angler, this is the Sportfishing Capital of the World! Apart from the beach, Florida Keys is also rich in mangroves, sandbar islands, mudflats, and tidal bars. There is plenty to see and plenty of parties to attend, too!

But like us, no matter how hard your day or week has been, you know you can always relax and recover at Cheeca Lodge & Spa.

THE FACILITIES

Obviously, the facilities are superb. But the best part about Cheeca Lodge & Spa is how attentive the staff is. It was so hot in Florida and they were happy to give us more bottles of water. Also, when we arrived, they handed us a welcome gift – two souvenir hats!

Spa – Choose from a long list of treatments at The Spa at Cheeca Lodge and get the decadent pampering that your mind and body deserves. Located behind the gardens and cascading waterfalls, this tranquil spa features a host of luxurious amenities like a heated lap pool with butler service, wet room with Vichy shower, and fully-equipped fitness center.

THE FOOD

We did not eat here because the best restaurants in the area are nearby. The resort is a strategic location if you are planning on an awesome food trip though. But Florida Trend magazine hailed Cheeca Lodge & Spa as one of the best places to dine in Florida. There are three restaurants and bars on-site and below are some information about them:

  • Atlantic’s Edge is the flagship restaurant famed for fresh local seafood, prime steaks, and organic local produce.
  • Limoncello offers casual and rustic family dining. It is Tuscan-inspired where you can find gorgeous servings of housemade pasta and other classic Italian favorites. They also have a full children’s menu.
  • Nikai Sushi Bar & Restaurant features artful, stylish, and delicious sushi with plenty of choices.
  • Tiki Bar has lovely ocean views and serves Keys-inspired hand-crafted cocktail.
  • Coffee Bar presents homemade food and drinks in a casual setting. The food is healthy and made from organic and local ingredients.
  • Lobby Bar offers a selection of handcrafted cocktails, ideal for pre-dinner drinks.
